RIP Harry Cameron Jacobs

Sandy's father Harry passed away this afternoon. It was just two weeks ago that we gathered to celebrate his 90th birthday. Back in hospital for a relatively minor issue, he went into heart failure overnight. He did wake up in the morning and we had a couple of hours to talk to him. His last words were:

"I'm ready to go. No regrets."

Rest in Peace, Harry. We will miss you.

In Loving Memory
Harry Cameron Jacobs
90 Years

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces his passing on Sunday March 30th, 2014 at Health Sciences North with his loving family at his side. Beloved husband and best friend of Janet “Jan” (nee Bird) Jacobs. Loving father of Malcolm Jacobs (partner Jan) and Sandy Robinson (Jim). Dear grandfather of Heather Gronek (Tom) and Kim Koolen (Mike). Great grandfather of Jolene, Robyn and Jasper. He will be missed by the members of his large extended family and many friends.

Harry served with the British Army Signal Corps during World War II and worked as the accountant at Sudbury News Service until his retirement in 1989.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the M.S. Society or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

A Celebration of life will be held on Friday April 4th, 2014 at 11AM in the R.J. Barnard Chapel, Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home, 233 Larch St., Sudbury.

Happy Birthday Harry Cameron Jacobs

My father-in-law Harry was born on the Ides of March, 1924 and emigrated to Canada in 1948.

Today, the family (which includes many nieces and nephews) gathered at Casey's Roadhouse to celebrate his 90th birthday. Harry has been having some health issues lately and is currently in the Rehab Unit at Extendicare York following abdominal surgery, but we broke him out him for his birthday lunch.

Casey's was great. They set the small private room for us and, although it was against their policy, allowed us to bring in Harry's favourite Black Forest cake. After all, as Bev the manager said, it isn't every day that someone turns ninety.

By the way, the hardest winter in a long time just keeps going on. This was the scene from our doorway this morning. Usually when snow comes early, it leaves early. This year looks to be making an exception.

Sure it's pretty but I've had enough

Welcome Jasper James Gronek

Jasper James Gronek
March 5, 2014

Our third grandchild and first grandson, Jasper James Gronek, made his appearance today at 5:22 AM this morning. He is the first child for daughter Heather and son-in-law Tom. Although Heather had been planning a home birth, the labour dragged on and she was moved to the hospital in Stratford (the midwife did not have privileges at the Woodstock hospital right next door). The new arrival weighed 7 pounds 12.5 ounces and was 21.7 inches long.

Congratulations to the new mom and dad. We look forward to spoiling young JJ along with his cousins Jolene and Robyn.
