We checked into the Super 8 and then moved our gear up to our room on the second floor. It was a small room with twin beds and no refrigerator and we're sharing with Sherm, but you can't find a better roommate anywhere. The hotel owner was very friendly and accommodating, but the WiFi is very slow most of the time.
As the afternoon wore on, others started to roll in. Around 6:00, on Tom M.'s recommendation, we walked a short way down the street to a restaurant called jack and Jannelle's. The serve large portions of good food with a smile for a very reasonable price. I had a huge chicken fried steak with salad bar and all the trimmings for $7.95.
Back in the parking lot, we talked for a while with Virginia Honeycutt. The Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo is in town and she and her husband's family company, the Honeycutt Rodeo Stock Contracters Inc., have been supplying stock (bucking broncos, bulls, etc.) to rodeos for 51 years. For the John Wayne movie The Cowboys, they provided the cattle and the horses and Mrs. Honeycutt did some work as an extra. We plan to attend the rodeo tomorrow evening.
The parking lot was quiet as we stood around and did what VROCers do best, talk about anything and everything. We had about twenty people in a day early. Not wanting to push it, Sandy and I were in bed before 11.
