RIP Harry Cameron Jacobs

Sandy's father Harry passed away this afternoon. It was just two weeks ago that we gathered to celebrate his 90th birthday. Back in hospital for a relatively minor issue, he went into heart failure overnight. He did wake up in the morning and we had a couple of hours to talk to him. His last words were:

"I'm ready to go. No regrets."

Rest in Peace, Harry. We will miss you.

Happy Birthday Harry Cameron Jacobs

My father-in-law Harry was born on the Ides of March, 1924 and emigrated to Canada in 1948.

Today, the family (which includes many nieces and nephews) gathered at Casey's Roadhouse to celebrate his 90th birthday. Harry has been having some health issues lately and is currently in the Rehab Unit at Extendicare York following abdominal surgery, but we broke him out him for his birthday lunch.

Casey's was great. They set the small private room for us and, although it was against their policy, allowed us to bring in Harry's favourite Black Forest cake. After all, as Bev the manager said, it isn't every day that someone turns ninety.

By the way, the hardest winter in a long time just keeps going on. This was the scene from our doorway this morning. Usually when snow comes early, it leaves early. This year looks to be making an exception.

Sure it's pretty but I've had enough

Welcome Jasper James Gronek

Jasper James Gronek
March 5, 2014

Our third grandchild and first grandson, Jasper James Gronek, made his appearance today at 5:22 AM this morning. He is the first child for daughter Heather and son-in-law Tom. Although Heather had been planning a home birth, the labour dragged on and she was moved to the hospital in Stratford (the midwife did not have privileges at the Woodstock hospital right next door). The new arrival weighed 7 pounds 12.5 ounces and was 21.7 inches long.

Congratulations to the new mom and dad. We look forward to spoiling young JJ along with his cousins Jolene and Robyn.
